Oh, Happy Spring Ladies!
As spring unfolds and the vibrant hues of nature surround us, it's with great pleasure that I address you in this month's newsletter. April brought us together for a memorable occasion at our Scholarship Awards luncheon on April 22nd. It was truly heartwarming to witness the bright faces of the students and the proud smiles of their families as we honored their achievements. Seeing the tangible impact of our collective efforts is a reminder of the power of community and the importance of our mission.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and support of each and every one of our members. Your tireless contributions and unwavering commitment are the driving force behind our success. Together, we continue to make a difference in the lives of those around us, empowering future generations through education and opportunity.
As we reflect on the success of our Scholarship Awards luncheon, let's also turn our attention to the upcoming Community Service Awards luncheon on May 20th. It's another chance for us to come together and celebrate the outstanding individuals who embody the spirit of service within our community. I encourage you all to mark your calendars and join us
for what promises to be a memorable event.
Additionally, I'd like to remind everyone that it's time to start thinking about paying our dues for next year. Your continued support ensures the sustainability of our organization and enables us to expand our reach even further. Your contributions truly make a difference,
and I thank you for your ongoing generosity.
Lastly, as we approach Mother's Day, I want to extend warm wishes to all the mothers among us. Your love, strength, and guidance enrich the lives of those around you, and you deserve to be celebrated not just on this day, but every day.
Thank you once again for your dedication and commitment to the
Women of Sugarmill Woods.
Together, we are making a meaningful impact in our community, and I look forward to continuing this journey with each and every one of you.
Thank you for your dedication, passion, and commitment.
Warm regards,

If you would like to donate school supplies and are not attending the luncheons before August, you can drop off at my house anytime, 27 Cyclamen Ct. Please call to let me know, 201/323-2695.
The students typically need:

The Homosassa Elementary School teachers and families are extremely grateful for our donations each year.

Congratulations to the 15 amazing upcoming graduates on being awarded hard-earned Scholarships at our April 22nd Luncheon. We received 50 applications this year from students of Citrus, Crystal River, and Lecanto High Schools. The Women of Sugarmill Woods Scholarship Committee spent countless hours reviewing the applications and had a difficult time choosing the 15 winners. All the applicants were very deserving.
We wish we could help them all.
Dr. Sandra (Sam) Himmel, Superintendent, was unable to attend, and Dr. Scott Hebert, Assistant Superintendent of Citrus County Schools was on hand to speak briefly about the Citrus County School District and these bright, young students.
Donations will also be made to Homosassa Elementary Accelerated Reading Program, Withlacoochee Technical Institute, and Take Stock in Children.
The program was entertaining, as the Committee prepared a question for each of the students to answer as they introduced themselves and talked about their exciting plans to further their education. What a great group of kids. These motivated young people know what they want to do with their lives. Their planned fields of study are Criminal Psychology; Biomedical; Nursing; Culinary; Cinematography; Physical Therapy/Chiropractor; Agricultural Law; Journalism/ Poly Science; Orthodontia; Military Pediatrician; Law Enforcement & Veterinary Science/Large Animal Veterinarian.

The scholarship committee has completed our extensive review of scholarship applications. We received a total of 50 applications from Crystal River, Lecanto and Citrus High and each was very deserving, but choices had to be made. We review each application with our 3 item criteria of eligibility that they • Have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher; • Have financial need • Attend a Florida Accredited college, University or program toward a degree. With your generous support, the fundraising efforts of the Women of Sugarmill Woods was able to allot a total of $27,491 for scholarships. This enabled us to provide 15 scholarships as well as $4,000 to Take Stock in Children (matched by the State of FL), $2,500 to the Accelerated Reader program, and $1,500 to Withlacoochee Technical College. The students have been notified and all are very excited to attend our April luncheon where we will be able to meet them and hear a bit about them. Don’t miss it! This is one of the major reasons we support the fundraising efforts of the Women of Sugarmill Woods.

SCHOOL-ASTIC GOLF TOURNAMENT - A GREAT SUCCESS!
On Monday, February 26, 72 golfers arrived at Sugarmill Woods Country Club
for a beautiful and successful day of breakfast, golf, lunch and lots of prizes.
While it was chilly in the morning, the 18 teams of golfers enjoyed a beautiful
day on the course! We checked them in and helped them enjoy a delicious
breakfast of egg bakes, donuts, bagels, fruit and yogurt all brought by our
members and donations from Publix and Stacy’s Grocery. Golfers enjoyed
chair massages by the Massage Students from Withlacoochee Technical
College before the shotgun start at 9 am. By a little after 1:00 pm golfers
were beginning to come in for the luncheon of soup and make your own salad
or sandwich put on beautifully by the SMWCC. The decorations for breakfast
and the luncheon were outstanding! Great Lucky Draw items were available
for golfers to choose from with beautiful baskets and lots of rounds of golf
donated by golf courses around the area. Tickets for Share the Wealth were
sold as well as Grand Prize tickets for a round of golf for 4 at Black Diamond
Golf Course. Cash Prizes for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive were award-
ed as well as cash prizes for First and Second Places for the Men’s Teams and
Women’s Teams divisions and First, Second and Third Places for the Mixed
Teams' division. It was a fun and enjoyable day for all involved in our effort to
raise funds for Scholarships for deserving Citrus County Students.
It looks like we raised over $17,500 for Scholarships! You can all be proud of
your efforts through being a Patron, or helping on the Golf Committee or
donating items to the Lucky Draw!
I would like to thank our wonderful Golf Committee for all their creativity

New scholarship applications will be collected the first week of February from the guidance counselors of each Citrus County public school. The committee will be reviewing applications and making recommendations for awards. In the meantime, here is some information for you!
In 1995, Take Stock in Children, a Florida nonprofit, was founded to instill hope in economically disadvantaged youth. They provide support through mentoring, a college success coach, and college readiness workshops and mitigate financial barriers to higher education.
Since 1995, Take Stock has served over 39,000 low-income, at risk children in Florida. The selected children start in grades 6 through 9 and must maintain good attendance, grades and sign a contract agreeing to stay drug free and crime free. The program continues through grade 12 and beyond.
There are more than 9,686 mentors in 45 local programs, within 814 middle and high schools, in 67 Florida counties, and continue into 40 colleges and universities. 97% of the students complete high school. 90% enroll in college and 72% graduate from college.
What a great group to support!

Greetings everyone and Happy New Year. Trust you have had a nice holiday season. We are excited to bring in 2024 and all that it holds for the WSW. Be sure to reserve for our January luncheon on the 22nd. Reservations are due on the 12th, I believe. No exceptions. February we have a Valentine fund raiser planned. This is a soft fund raiser and you’ll be hearing more about it soon. Later in the month is our annual School-astic golf tournament. Things are shaping up nicely for this event. Volunteers are always appreciated. This is a major fund raiser for scholarships for qualifying high school students in Citrus county. We hope many will come out and be supportive. This event is on Monday, February 26th . There is also a luncheon planned for February 19th . As some of us dwell on New Years resolutions, let’s be mindful, always, of more kindness to one another. Many are struggling with things that are not visible. Kindness is free and often only takes a moment to impact someone’s life in a positive way. Recently we lost a beautiful light in a dark world. May you rest in peace, Marge Stidd. You made a difference in all of our lives. It was a privilege to have known you. Let’s approach the New Year with a fresh perspective of what the WSW stand for. It’s never about us. It’s about giving back a little of the blessings we have received . Truly we are very fortunate. I want to be more like Marge this year! How about you? I remain, Becky Jones, President

Indulge in delectable chocolate goodies while supporting a great cause. We will be taking preorders very soon! Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a novice, this event promises to be a day filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and of plenty of fun. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Hello Ladies!
Surely this finds us all very grateful to have dodged yet another hurricane bullet in August! Let’s be mindful of those who have not been as fortunate.
So…… before you haul out all your pumpkins, remember the first day of fall isn’t until September 23rd! Right! It will probably still be 90+ degrees!
I am enjoying some sunflower decor till then.
We are looking forward to another successful year with the WSW in 2023-2024. Our Butter Braid sale continues and our annual fashion show/luncheon in October is shaping up nicely. November brings a very special luncheon to usher in our Christmas season. That is taking place on November 6th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Angel Tree will be on hand that day as well so be prepared to take a few angels off the tree for distribution in early December. This is facilitated through the Salvation Army. We also have an early luncheon in December with Christmas crafts for raffle made by our very own members.
And don’t forget our miniature Christmas tree sale the last day of November through the first week in December. Always a profitable and fun event.
In January we will attempt to get the year off to a roaring start. And……Marykay Verkennes has agreed to chair our School-astic golf tournament once again in February!
March or April may be another community garage sale. April and May are our scholarship and charity recipients as always.
I’m sure I’ve missed something but suffice to say, I look forward to another fun, action-packed year as we attempt to make Citrus County an even greater place to be.
My heartfelt appreciation for all you do as the WSW!
I look forward to leading us through another year.
Fondly,
Becky Jones, President
